Half Marathon #1: New Orleans

Scott and I traveled to New Orleans this past weekend for the Mardi Gras Half Marathon.  This was Scott's first half marathon.  I am pleased to say that after running two full marathons (New York City and Rocket City) he has thrown in the towel and will only be running half marathons from this point forward.  13.1 miles is much, much better than 26.2 (for all involved)!
This is Scott just after the race.  He wore his red and blue for the American Cancer Society -- the proceeds from the race went to that organization.  He finished in 1 hour and 53 minutes (about 8:40 per mile), which was a good time.  He was very pleased and I was very proud!  :)

The race was on Sunday, so we arrived in New Orleans on Friday in order to enjoy a couple of days in the city before returning home.  We enjoyed our time in NOLA, filled with much needed relaxation, beautiful weather and delicious food!!  We had lots of great New Orleans style seafood.  The only thing I left on my plate the entire trip was the caviar... I am not a big fan!  :)  We enjoyed Saturday brunch at a place called "Eat."  I would travel back to New Orleans just to eat there again.
Also, the beignets at Cafe du Monde were to die for...

Me in New Orleans at almost 27 weeks pregnant!

Here, we are on our way to lunch after the race on Sunday.  We had a great trip!  It was a fun way to spend Valentine's Day weekend!

You may be wondering why I titled this post "Half Marathon #1."  This happens to be the first of many for us.  Running is something we love to do and can do together, so we have decided to run at least one (hopefully two) half marathons each year.  They make for a perfect weekend trip to the many great cities that host the marathons (not to mention...  it's a great way to stay in shape year-round).  So, New Orleans is #1.  The Chicago Half Marathon in August will be #2...
Let the races begin!!  :)

  1. Congrats, Scott! I think Chicago should be #3. As for #2... the US Half Marathon in San Francisco on April 10. Would love to see you guys and run with Scott for the first time since 2002.
